Energy Efficient Windows & Doors
Reduce draughts, improve comfort and support deeper energy upgrades with high-performance windows and doors.
Windows and doors are part of the building fabric
Cut draughts and heat loss where you feel them most
Even with good insulation in your attic and walls, poor windows and doors can leave rooms feeling cold and draughty.
Old frames, single glazing or badly fitted doors can let heat escape and cold air in, undoing much of the benefit of other upgrades.
Premier Insulations can assess your windows and external doors as part of a wider survey, and advise where replacement or improvement will
make a meaningful difference to comfort and energy performance.
Window and door solutions we provide
- Replacement windows — modern double or triple glazed units with improved frames and seals to reduce heat loss and draughts.
- High-performance external doors — insulated, well-sealed doors to cut cold air and improve security and comfort.
- Glazing upgrades — replacing poor-performing panes where full frame replacement is not yet required.
- Improved airtightness around frames — addressing gaps, seal failure and poor junctions between walls and frames.
- Windows and doors as part of a deeper retrofit — combining fabric upgrades, windows, doors and mechanical ventilation where appropriate.
We will always look at the bigger picture first, so you understand how window and door upgrades fit alongside insulation, ventilation,
heating and any planned energy retrofit.
-
Less draughts
Better seals and frames reduce cold air movement around openings.
-
Lower heating demand
Less heat escaping through glass and frames means your heating system runs less.
-
More even temperatures
Fewer cold spots near windows and doors, making rooms more comfortable to use.
We don’t just sell windows – we assess the whole home
Survey first, then clear recommendations
During your survey, we look at how your windows and doors perform in the context of the whole building. We check for visible defects, draughts, condensation, cold surfaces and signs of frame or seal failure.
- Identify windows and doors that are clearly underperforming.
- Consider how upgrades will interact with insulation and ventilation.
- Prioritise the worst areas first so you get the most benefit for your budget.
Where appropriate, we can link window and door upgrades with a Home Energy Assessment & BER to see how they contribute to overall energy performance.
What customers say
“Replacing the worst of our old windows and the front door made a big difference to comfort. Rooms near the front of the house used to feel cold, even after we upgraded the insulation. Now the heat stays in much better.”
– Homeowner, Co. Kildare
“We asked Premier Insulations to look at our insulation and windows together rather than just sell us one product.
They explained which windows were worth replacing now and which could wait until a later phase.”
– Homeowner, Cork
Signs your windows and doors need attention
You don’t always need a survey to know that windows or doors are part of the problem.
Common signs include:
- Noticeable draughts around frames, sills or letterboxes.
- Condensation or mould on window reveals and nearby walls.
- Rooms that feel cold near the windows, even when the rest of the room is warm.
- Difficulty closing or locking windows and doors properly.
- Visible gaps, warped frames or failed double glazing units.
If you recognise several of these, a combined insulation and window/door assessment is usually the best next step.
How windows and doors fit with insulation
We normally recommend dealing with insulation first, or at least at the same time as window and door upgrades.
Improving the attic, walls and floors reduces overall heat loss and makes it clearer which openings truly need replacement.
In many projects, the most effective sequence is:
- Attic and wall insulation.
- Draught-proofing and airtightness improvements.
- Targeted window and door upgrades where they add real value.
This approach avoids spending heavily on windows where insulation and airtightness will solve much of the issue.
Windows and doors in deeper energy upgrades
In deeper energy upgrades and full-home retrofits, windows and doors can play an important role in achieving
better overall performance, comfort and appearance.
As part of our energy upgrades and retrofit service, we can:
- Coordinate window and door replacement with insulation and ventilation works.
- Help ensure junctions between walls and frames are treated correctly for airtightness.
- Advise how window and door upgrades interact with SEAI-supported retrofit schemes in the Republic of Ireland.
We will always explain where windows and doors sit in your overall upgrade plan, rather than treating them in isolation.
Thinking about upgrading windows and doors?
If you are unsure whether to prioritise windows and doors, insulation or other measures, a survey will clarify what is happening and
which upgrades will make the biggest difference in your home.
Tell us a little about your home and we will arrange for one of our surveyors to visit and assess your insulation, windows and doors together.
Windows & doors – quick answers
Should I upgrade my windows and doors before or after insulation?
In most homes it makes sense to prioritise insulation first, especially in the attic and walls,
then look at windows and doors where there are clear draughts, cold spots or failures.
We will advise on the best sequence during your survey.
Do new windows and doors on their own make a big difference?
They can help if your existing units are very poor, but the biggest energy savings usually come from insulation upgrades.
We prefer to consider windows and doors as part of a wider fabric and energy plan so you get the best return on your investment.
Can window and door upgrades be included in an SEAI-supported project?
In the Republic of Ireland, windows and doors can form part of some deeper energy upgrade and retrofit projects,
subject to SEAI scheme rules and eligibility.
We will explain how they fit into any SEAI-supported plan for your home.
Do you only supply certain types or brands of windows and doors?
We work with a range of high-performance systems and suppliers.
The focus is on U-values, airtightness, correct installation and how the windows and doors integrate with your insulation and ventilation strategy,
rather than on any single brand.
Can you look at my insulation and windows in one visit?
Yes. During your survey we can assess your insulation, windows, doors and other elements together,
so you can see how each upgrade contributes to comfort, energy savings and any wider retrofit plan.
