SEAI grants made simple
Everything you need to know about home energy grants
SEAI (Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland) grants make it more affordable to upgrade your home with insulation, heating controls, heat pumps and solar PV. This page answers the most common questions about eligibility, grant amounts, and how we help guide you through the process.
What are SEAI grants?
SEAI (Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland) grants are government-backed payments that reduce the cost of energy upgrades like insulation, solar PV, heat pumps and heating controls. The grants are available to eligible homeowners who use SEAI-registered contractors — like Premier Insulations.
What home energy grants are currently available?
Grants are available for attic insulation, cavity wall insulation, external wall insulation, internal wall insulation, heat pumps, heating controls, solar PV and BER assessments. We’ll recommend what applies to your home during your survey.
How much are the SEAI grants worth?
It depends on your home type and the upgrade. For example, attic insulation grants range from €800 to €1,500. Cavity wall insulation grants go up to €1,700. External wall insulation grants are up to €8,000 for detached homes. We’ll confirm exact figures for your property after your survey.
Am I eligible for a grant?
To qualify, your home must be located in Ireland and have been built and occupied before 2011 for insulation grants — or before 2021 for solar PV. You must use an SEAI-registered contractor, and your home must meet technical requirements. We’ll confirm eligibility during your free survey.
How do I apply for a grant?
We’ll guide you through the process from start to finish. For the Better Energy Homes scheme, you apply online and receive a grant offer. For One Stop Shop projects, the grant is handled on your behalf and deducted from your quote. Either way, we take care of the paperwork.
When do I get the grant money?
If you're applying through Better Energy Homes, SEAI pays the grant after your work is completed and your BER is updated. If you're using the One Stop Shop scheme, the grant is applied as an upfront discount on your quote.
Do I need a BER assessment?
Yes — SEAI requires a BER (Building Energy Rating) assessment before and/or after your upgrade. We include this as part of your project if needed, or refer you to a registered assessor.
Can I combine more than one grant?
Yes — many homeowners combine insulation, heating control, solar PV and heat pump grants. We’ll help you build a complete upgrade path that maximises your savings and eligibility.
Do I have to pay everything up front?
Not always. For One Stop Shop projects, you pay the discounted total with grants already applied. For Better Energy Homes, you pay for the work and SEAI reimburses you after completion. We’ll explain the payment options clearly before you commit.
Can I get a grant if I already upgraded my home?
Possibly — if you haven’t already claimed a grant for that specific measure, and if the upgrade meets SEAI's technical criteria. We can check your eligibility during your survey.
Are there grants for apartments or smaller homes?
Yes — grant amounts vary by property type. Apartments and mid-terrace homes receive smaller grants than detached homes, but still qualify for significant support.
How long does the grant process take?
The survey and quote can usually be done within a week. SEAI typically issues grant offers within 2–5 working days. Once the work is complete, documentation is submitted and payment is processed.
Do you guarantee the paperwork and compliance?
Yes — we issue all SEAI-required documentation, photographs, warranties and technical specs. We stand over our work and ensure it's grant-compliant and correctly submitted.
