Old insulation can cause more harm than good

We remove damp, degraded or non-compliant cavity wall insulation

Many homes built between the 1980s and early 2000s were insulated with fibre-fill or other systems that no longer meet today's performance or moisture standards. If that insulation has slumped, become damp, or was poorly installed, we can fully extract it and refill the cavity properly — without damaging your walls.

Why cavity extraction might be needed

  • Fibre-fill or polystyrene insulation has become damp or degraded
  • Cold patches, condensation, or mould appearing inside
  • Old insulation slumped to the base of the wall cavity
  • Re-insulating for SEAI compliance or retrofit standards

Our team will survey your walls, take core samples (if needed), and advise if extraction is required.

  • Remove Damp Insulation

Get rid of water-logged or collapsed cavity insulation

  • Refill with Bonded Bead

Upgrade to modern graphite bead system with better performance

  • SEAI-Compliant

Fully compliant with retrofit and grant upgrade standards

How the extraction process works

Clean removal with specialist equipment

  • We drill small access holes around the affected walls
  • High-powered vacuum units extract the old insulation material
  • We monitor airflow to ensure a full cleanout of the cavity
  • Holes are resealed and finished cleanly

Once complete, we can refill the cavity with bonded bead insulation — or leave it empty if preferred.

What customers say

“Premier removed damp insulation from our walls and refilled them with bead. House feels totally different now — no more cold patches or musty smells.”
— F. Kavanagh, Westmeath

“We didn’t know our old fibre-fill had failed. Premier showed us during the survey, explained everything, and sorted it quickly. Brilliant service.”
— S. Barry, Galway

Signs your cavity insulation may need removal

  • Sudden cold spots or damp patches inside walls
  • Walls feel colder than expected, despite having insulation
  • Condensation or mould near external walls
  • Insulation installed over 20 years ago with no inspection since
  • Survey shows signs of slumping or saturation

We use borescopes, airflow testing, and wall sampling to confirm what’s inside before taking action.

What happens after extraction?

In most cases, we recommend upgrading to bonded bead insulation — a modern, graphite-enhanced system that fully fills the cavity and dramatically improves performance.

It’s also SEAI approved and grant supported — so you may qualify for funding.

Nationwide service

Our cavity extraction teams cover all of Ireland, and we’ve removed failing insulation from thousands of homes. Whether you’re in a town, village or rural area — we’ll assess, remove and upgrade cleanly and professionally.

Quick answers

Why remove cavity wall insulation?

If it’s damp, slumped or causing condensation, it needs to be extracted before it can be replaced properly.

How do you know what’s in the wall?

We carry out a visual survey, take small core samples if needed, or use a borescope to inspect the cavity internally.

How long does it take?

Most extractions are completed in one day. We’ll give you a timeline after inspection.

Can I get a grant for this?

SEAI does not cover extraction itself — but grants apply for re-insulation after the old material is removed. We’ll guide you through the process.

Do I need to insulate again after removal?

Yes — in most cases. An empty cavity increases heat loss. We recommend bonded bead for the refill.
