Not all insulation is created equal

Why retrofit or re-insulate?

Many Irish homes were insulated decades ago using materials or methods that no longer meet today's standards — or worse, have degraded completely. Whether you're planning a full home retrofit or just replacing outdated insulation, we offer solutions that make your home warmer, cheaper to run, and grant-eligible.

When re-insulation makes sense

  • You have old fibre or rock wool in your attic that’s compacted or missing
  • Your cavity wall insulation is 20+ years old or shows signs of failure
  • You’ve upgraded your heating but haven’t touched your insulation
  • You’re applying for a BER or SEAI grant and need to meet insulation targets

We assess what can be kept — and what needs to be replaced — so you don’t waste money or energy.

  • Full System Upgrades

Attic, cavity, internal & external wall upgrades done together

  • Old Insulation Removed

Extraction of degraded or failing insulation before re-fill

  • Grant Compliant

We design upgrades to meet SEAI grant & BER standards

What we upgrade

Common retrofit measures

  • Attic insulation top-up — Add new layers to old or underperforming insulation
  • Cavity wall extraction & refill — Remove failing bead or fibre-fill, re-insulate with bonded beads
  • Internal & external wall insulation — Add where cavity isn’t viable or previous upgrade was partial
  • Spray foam removal — Replace with grant-compliant alternatives if old foam isn’t breathable

We tailor solutions to each property — and explain exactly what qualifies for grant support.

What customers say

“Our attic was insulated years ago, but it was useless. Premier topped it up, tidied everything and our BER jumped two grades.”
— A. Collins, Clare

“Premier removed old cavity insulation and re-filled it to SEAI spec. The difference in wall temperature was instant.”
— M. Byrne, Dublin

SEAI grant ready

All retrofit work we do is designed to meet current SEAI requirements. Whether you’re applying under the Better Energy Homes scheme or through One Stop Shop, we handle the documentation and make sure the insulation side is covered properly.

Our installers follow NSAI-approved methods and issue full post-install records where needed.

Retrofit, not just replace

Upgrading your insulation isn’t just about removing the old — it’s about designing a full system that works with your heating, ventilation, and energy goals. We look at the big picture, not just the material in the walls.

Where we work

We retrofit homes across Ireland — from 1950s bungalows to 1990s semis and everything in between. Our retrofit team covers all 32 counties. View service areas.

Quick answers

Can I get a grant for replacing old insulation?

Yes — if the existing insulation is failing or non-compliant, SEAI allows for upgrades as part of grant-supported retrofits.

Do you remove old cavity insulation?

Yes — we provide cavity extraction where old fibre-fill or bead has failed or settled. Then we refill using bonded bead insulation.

How do I know if my attic insulation is still good?

We’ll check thickness, condition and coverage. If it’s below 300mm, patchy or missing in areas, we’ll recommend a top-up.

Can I upgrade insulation without replacing my heating system?

Yes — though it’s often better to combine both. We can handle insulation upgrades alone or as part of a full energy upgrade.

What’s the difference between retrofit and re-insulation?

Retrofit often includes multiple upgrades (insulation, heating, ventilation) for grant eligibility. Re-insulation refers specifically to improving or replacing old insulation.
